Obsessions: 08.03.18

Did anyone else feel like this was the longest week ever while simultaneously feeling like summer is slipping away from us? No? Well then ignore that. Here’s what we’ve been obsessed with this week (when we weren’t panicking about the concept of time) in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Michelle

Hart of Dixie

I’ve already watched Hart of Dixie a couple times but just started a rewatch. It is SO. GOOD. I started season 2 last night, so hop on Netflix and join me!

Cleaning my house

As I mentioned last week, my house is a hot mess pile of trash and I can no longer handle it. I started the cleaning/purging process this week, so if you follow along on Instagram you got to watch me spiral out of control in real time on Instastories. I finally fixed a cabinet door in my kitchen so I can actually open it and that little change made such a huge difference! If anyone has any cleaning/organizing/purging hot tips, please let me know! Or, just come to my house and take everything with you.

Power Tool Brand Loyalty

I am a huge fan of DeWalt power tools and have had my dad’s drill and saw at my house for the last three years, SORRY DAD. Now, he decided he needs them back, so I have to decide if I want to stick with DeWalt when I build out my own tool collection or jump over to Ryobi, an internet blogger favorite. DeWalt is a more pro-level choice, but Ryobi is more affordable. Any thoughts? Or, is there another line I should look at? I’d like to stick with one brand so I can build out a collection that can all use the same batteries.

White linen blazers

white linen blazer obsessions

1| J. Crew   2| Zara   3| Asos   4| Zara

Much like Lily Tomlin’s character in Nine to Five, I have a office only sweater that gets applied to every outfit I wear. So after seeing the J. Crew white blazer I had a thought… Instead of my granny pill ridden sweater I currently throw on when I’m cold, what if I had a white linen blazer instead? Now I admit, a white blazer can look like a lab coat very quickly. It’s a fine line to walk. But this, of course, got me spiraling to find ALL the options. Spoiler: I ordered the Asos version and will report back on how it works out!

Jurassic Park Conspiracy Theory

jurassic park obsessions

I watched the original Jurassic Park last night, and I have some questions. Well, really just an observation. So, at the beginning of the movie, Laura Dern (whose outfit I will be replicating for the rest of summer, btw) has a chat with her paleontologist boyfriend about why you should want to have kids. Then, as we all know, he gets trapped in Jurassic Park with two kids while the dinosaurs run wild around them. The movie ends with everyone in a helicopter, the kids snuggled up to the paleontologist boyfriend, and Laura Dern looking pleased. Like, was the whole movie just an elaborate plot for Laura Dern’s boyfriend to accept children into his life? I know the lesson is that you shouldn’t mess with things like DNA (and also that maybe dinosaurs became birds), but is it actually that if put through a life or death situation, all men will want kids? I don’t know guys, I’m just saying it seems a little sus.

Wedding Planning

As you might have been able to tell from Monday’s post, I’m back into wedding planning. We’re under 100 days from our wedding and still have a lot to do. This week I got really into decoration DIYs. At the very least, we’ll be taking on the seating assignment display, dessert setup, photobooth, and ceremony backdrop. I think I’ve got most of it planned out, but if anyone has any great DIY photobooth ideas let me know!

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Let us know what you’re obsessed with this week in the comments and if you see anything in the wild that you think we’d be obsessed with, be sure to tag us @andthenwetried or use #ATWTobsessions

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
