Obsessions: 07.13.18

It’s Friday the 13th! Being July, it doesn’t exactly feel spooky out, but hopefully, everyone gets only good luck today! We’ve been all over the place (mentally, physically) the past few weeks, so here’s what we’ve been up to in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.

Michelle

Keto

Last week, I read a bunch of stuff about the Keto diet and then spiraled out of control buying Keto stuff. I grabbed some MCT oil, heavy cream, full-fat yogurt, avocados, and some protein and fiber powders and got to work trying to “Eat Fat to Get Fit”. Then, I went to San Francisco and now that I’m here, I bailed on Keto to eat whatever. Basically eating high fat, low carb will make your body burn fat for fuel instead of glucose/carbs/sugar. I’m pretty into extreme food challenges, see the Whole30, and this Keto stuff feels like a body science experiment, so I’m thinking I’ll get back into it when I’m home from San Francisco. Any tips would be appreciated!

Loose Pants

everlane wide leg crop

I don’t know if it is because its summer or because I’ve gained a lil weight or because I’m just a super casual breezy person, but I can no longer handle skinny jeans. I’ve been loving loose pants and yesterday I finally bought the Everlane Wide Leg Crop Utility pants and I’m pumped to wear them today! I was in the San Francisco Everlane store and all the ladies working there and shopping there recommended sizing two sizes down because they stretch so much, so I’m glad I got that hot tip. I was planning on grabbing the ankle length Work Pant, but they didn’t have those in store, so I’ll wait to get those online.

That’s about all I can say so this doesn’t become a spoiler but has anyone else been watching????

Pre-workout Update

Remember a few weeks ago when I remembered I like pre-workout drink and was on the hunt for a new one? Well a popular recommendation was the Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy version on Amazon. I ordered the strawberry lime flavor and I can confirm it’s very good! Definitely recommend.

Making Ice Cream

One of the first gifts Zac ever got me was an ice cream maker, but I hadn’t used it until this past week. I dusted off my Ben and Jerry’s ice cream recipe book and stocked up on heavy cream, then got to work! So far I’ve been making their mint Oreo ice cream and it’s so good. Since everything is so fresh it’s like eating cold whipped cream, if that makes any sense. And it’s so easy! Highly suggest getting into the homemade ice cream game this summer if you’re looking for a hobby.

My Eyebrows

For probably about 12 years, I went to the same person to get my eyebrows waxed. She was amazing and did great work, so I never had any need to stray. Well, right before we went to Mexico last year, she quit. Like, quit the industry. Since then I’ve been on a journey to get my eyebrows right. After a year of at-home plucking and one disappointing professional wax, my eyebrows were thinner than I liked and just not doing anything for me. So, for the past three weeks or so, I’ve been letting them grow in. I’m hoping to leave them for a few more weeks at least before finding a new waxer to reshape my eyebrows and make me beautiful again. Until then, I feel the need to announce that YES I KNOW MY EYEBROWS LOOK LIKE THAT IT’S ON PURPOSE. Just don’t look directly at them.

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
