Obsessions: 06.01.18

So, somehow, we still had to work this week despite summer unofficially kicking off over the weekend. Between Memorial Day and all of our teacher friends wrapping up their school years, it really seems like we should all just not have to work over the summer. Anyone else start to think they’re in the wrong industry when June rolls around? Other than figuring out how to get summers off, here’s what we’ve been thinking about in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.

Stopping these night sweats

Hello, I’m Michelle and I am very sweaty. I have been waking up drenched in sweat for the last week or so and desperately need someone to tell me how to stop this. Help!

Finding a patio umbrella

I’m still working on creating my dream front porch curtain oasis but I didn’t get around to testing my sheers out there this week. I moved on to finding a way to bring some shade to the back deck. I stumbled across a grey umbrella with a base at Marshall’s for $80 and snapped that up. But it looked HUGE in person on the deck. The size was 2.5 x 3 meters and it spanned across more than half the deck and just felt a little ridiculous. I’ll be returning that and ordered a 9′ round market umbrella from Home Depot to try instead. I read somewhere that 9′ is the right size for my table, but I’m thinking I might have to drop down to 7.5′. Any suggestions for umbrellas? This will just go over the table, so the daybed will still be in the sun, but I guess in emergency lounge situations, I could pull the umbrella out of the table and stick it near the bed.

Pre-workout drink

pre workout drink

After visiting friends of the blog, Jamie and Morgen, on our way back from Greece, I was reminded that pre-workout drink is a thing and I really like it. So this week I’ve been back on the pre-workout game. It really wakes me up and gives me a little energy. I have no idea if this is the best brand and if you guys have any suggestions, let me know! This was the one already in my home from my husband so I’m using it up. I can confirm the blue raspberry flavor is pretty good and the green apple flavor we had before… not so much.

My Sister Rosa

my sister rosa and then we tried obsessions

So my sister (not Rosa) recommended this book to me and when I saw it was available on audiobook I snatched it up! I’m a little more than halfway through and I really like it so far. It’s narrated by a 17-year-old guy named Che who thinks his 10-year-old sister Rosa is a psychopath, but no one else believes him. My sister said there’s “a crazy twist that you won’t see coming,” so now I’m trying to guess what the twist is, haha. Regardless, it’s really good so far! I could do with less of his teenage romance and more with the psychopathy, but whatever.

That’s all.

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
