Obsessions: 03.30.18

Happy holiday weekend! Are you working today? Hannah and Michelle are dreaming of sneaking out of the office early to meet some friends for lunch and kick off the weekend. Other than that we’re laying low and have some family time ahead this weekend. Here’s what we’re loving in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Bliss Kiss Nail Oil

bliss kiss nail oil

I mentioned my love for this nail oil back in October and after a few months apart, I’m back on the Bliss Kiss nail oil game. My hands get super dry in the winter and my nails and cuticles are always dry garbage. This nail oil makes my nails and cuticles look soooo much better. I’ll never be a hand model, but my cuticles are hydrated and plump and my nails look smoother and less ridgy/peel-y. If you have shit nails, or even regular nails/cuticles, do yourself a favor and try Bliss Kiss Nail Oil. I’ve used other types of nail oils and this one is by far my favorite. The brush pen tube is hella practical, too.

Do you have any beauty products that you just keep coming back to? Let me know in the comments because obviously, I NEED to try it.

LIVELY Fragrance: Jasmine. Sea. Sun.

This obsession might be a little too early since I’ve only worn the perfume for a couple of days, but here you go: LIVELY launched their first fragrance and naturally, I ordered it right away. Here’s a quick initial LIVELY fragrance review. LIVELY Jasmine. Sea. Sun. is $55 for 50ml and the bottle is understated and pretty. It comes in a classic mini LIVELY dust bag, I’m not sure what I’ll do with this tiny white cloth bag, but I’ll for sure keep it forever like a true hoarder. The scent starts out a bit too flowery for my liking and reminds me so much of another scent but I can’t figure out which one. Something childhood-y, so possibly Bath and Body Works Moonlight Path (my mom’s scent of choice when I was growing up) or Clinique Happy/Happy Heart (my aunt’s scent of choice.)

After some research, I think it does remind me of Moonlight Path. The Bath and Body Works site says the top note is Jasmine.

The perfume doesn’t hang around long, so you’ll definitely need to reapply throughout the day, but I like the soft sandalwoody scent it fades in to. Overall I wish it was less floral and more sandalwood, but I don’t hate it! Have you tried the LIVELY Jasmine. Sea. Sun. fragrance? Do you like it? Does it remind you of anything? Hit me up in the comments.

Blush Sunglasses

Wedding planning. It’s a really tricky beast and as soon as I think I’ve covered all my bases, I’m onto obsessing about something else I forgot. Last week it was earrings, this week its sunglasses. In my mind, we’re going to take cheeky photos with sunglasses on? I don’t know guys, I’VE GONE OFF THE RAILS. In case you are in the market for blush sunglasses, I have done A LOT  of research. Here are my favorites:

Science Vs.

science vs

You guys already know our love of podcasts but for the past two weeks, one of my favorites, Science Vs. has done two shows on America’s opioid addiction.

Did you know that more people died in 2016 from opioids than the peak year of the AIDS epidemic?

-Science Vs.

What I love about the show is that they distill down the science in hot-button issues, which are commonly in the news, and present the science, free of any emotions or political or religious beliefs. And it’s all packaged up with a bubbly Australian lady host, so it feels approachable and not like your high school biology class.

If you’re at all curious about what all the commotion about opioids is, listen to How America Got Hooked and Kicking America’s Addiction. I also highly recommend their episodes on abortion, acne, and obesity. I learned so much!

Feel-Good Reads

I think we can all agree that most of what’s in the news these days is depressing/terrifying/frustrating. So when I read these two articles this week and found myself feeling warm and fuzzy by the end, I figured I’d share them.

  1. After 23 years in prison as an innocent man, former White Sox groundskeeper returns to his old job
  2. A game of tag that’s been going on for 20+ years

Spring Cleaning, continued

spring cleaning linen closet

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was getting into some spring cleaning and that effort is still moving forward. This week I’ve been working on organizing my linen closet. My upstairs hallway has an awesome built-in linen closet that has a lot of room and therefore has accumulated a lot of stuff. So, one night this week, I pulled everything out to assess what’s been hiding in there and whether we could use that space more efficiently. I’m still working on the final organization, but maybe I’ll share some after pictures with you if I ever finish up!

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Let us know what you’re obsessed with this week in the comments and if you see anything in the wild that you think we’d be obsessed with, be sure to tag us @andthenwetried or use #ATWTobsessions

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Gift Guide: Indoorsy

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. While we can’t claim to be experts on much, things to buy people who like to stay inside is definitely in our wheelhouse.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
