Obsessions: 01.26.18

This week we’re dealing with existential life crises and not loving a new tv show. Does this count as something we’re obsessed with? We’re not sure, but see what else is up in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.

Total Life Purge

Henri Trouser via Sézane

Hi, I’m going to whine on the internet now. I’ve been going through every room in my house getting rid of stuff and I can’t stop! I talked about organizing my new office hutch last week here. Everywhere I look I see more stuff that I never use and I just want to get rid of everything. I’ve also decided I hate all of my clothes and want a whole new lewk. I’m getting my hair dyed next month, but in the meantime, I’m ready to burn my closet and start over. Writing this down it sounds really dramatic and annoying, so I’m sorry. But, I’m feeling very blah. The new version of myself that I’ve created in my head wears wide leg crop khaki pants or some trousers and linen shirts if that gives anyone a sense of the new direction I’m thinking about. This weekend I’m going to lay out all of my clothes and hope that I find a few things I like before burning it all. (Alright, I’m not actually going to burn it all, I’m also a certified debt monster, so I can’t afford all new clothes.) So here’s my cry for help: any tips on liking all the stuff you already have instead of wishing it was all new stuff? I’m considering a no new clothes policy for this year, but that also seems extreme and like I’m asking to fail. Thoughts on me creating a new clothes capsule list? Like a list of 5 things I know I’m “missing” in my wardrobe and I’m only allowed to buy those things when I find the perfect one? HELP ME.

Standard Engagement Ring Sizes

Vrai & Oro at home try on

For those of you who I don’t know intimately, I got engaged recently. And one of the big beefs I’ve had with the whole process is ring shopping. IT WAS TERRIBLE. I don’t know what I was expecting exactly but what turned out was not fun. Full recap to come soon but the main let down was that every ring was a standard size 7. Well, having chubby fingers my whole life, I need larger than a 7 so I couldn’t try a single ring on in the store. The best I could do was squeeze it onto my knuckle to see if I semi-liked it on my general finger area. It was miserable. I guess I thought they would have rings of all sizes in stores? After the terrible in-store situation I did try an at home version by Vrai & Oro which was a much better solution. In the calm comfort of my own home, I can cram on a size 7 which I could never have mustered in the anxiety-ridden chaos of the store.

How did your own ring shopping go? Were you totally surprised and it magically fit or did you have to wait for it to be resized? I’m now so intrigued by this process which I knew nothing about!

The Alienist

The new miniseries The Alienist started on TNT this week and I’ve been looking forward to it for a while now. It’s no secret that I love a good murder mystery and a good period piece; putting them together is basically my ideal show. So far though I’m not sold. We’re only one episode in but I feel like I’ve seen this show before. The sets and details feel like I’m watching The Knick and the storyline, an early psychologist (an “alienist”) tracking a serial killer, feels like Mindhunter or, you know, every crime show. But, I’m not giving up just yet. I’m interested to see what the next few episodes have in store.

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
