Mid-Century Modern Christmas Tree + Decorating a Small Space for the Holidays

Living in an apartment—or any small space—always makes for some interesting configurations. Microwave taking up half your countertop? Sure. Have to sit sideways on the toilet to make room for the radiator? Why not? But when it comes to holiday decorations, you shouldn’t have to scrimp on style just because you don’t have the square footage. So this year, inspired by our favorite mid-century modern artists, we’ve designed this small space savvy Mid-Century Modern Christmas tree.

Best part is, it’s DIY printable. We worked with Parabo Press to print ours and if you haven’t checked them out before, now’s your chance. Remember when we were obsessed with their square prints a few weeks ago? They give you a set of 25 for free—as long as you pay shipping. Plus we’re sharing a Parabo coupon code for 30% off anything on their site. Just scroll down.

Parabo prints on a really nice medium weight paper stock which gives it an archival feel. You can definitely roll this back up and store for next year. Their wooden poster rails makes it easy to hang and display and the magnetic closure could not make it any easier. Plus once the holidays are over, you can still use the rails with another of your favorite prints.

To easily pull this together, throw down a cozy blanket you already own as a impromptu tree skirt and add a basket (this one usually holds said cozy blanket) to store all your presents as you wrap them.

The trick to pulling this off is by adding a lot of greenery. This adds touches of real fir and holly while still being low maintenance. One bundle of holiday greenery from my local Trader Joes + their boxwood wreath was more than enough with some even left over.

Parabo’s free square prints are such a good deal, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use them in a few gifts.

Photo Gift Tags

Instead of typical name tags, print old photos of your friends and family to label the gifts. How cute are these throwback photos of my parents when they were kids?

Succulent Care Cards

I’ve been endlessly propagating succulents for the past year—remember these bad boys in March?—and it’s time to gift some of them away if even for my own sanity. Make little care cards to ensure they get proper care in their new homes.

Apple Pie Moonshine Recipe Cards

After drinking my fair share of Apple Pie Moonshine, I always package some up to give away to friends and family. Print the recipe so your friends can recreate it themselves next year.

Parabo is incredibly easy to work with. This is actually my second order with them so you know I like the final product. A word of caution for color matching, I had no issues with the color on a myriad of photos or the recipe card and succulent care cards. That being said, the tree did come back with some funky colors. After following up with Parabo’s customer service, it looks like I should have uploaded a CMYK color file where as mine was RGB. They were incredibly helpful and really seem like they would do whatever it takes to get your prints right. So just be sure to upload that CMYK next time!

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
