What I learned in my search for luxe sheets + Brooklinen Referral Code for $25 off

At some point this spring, and at the behest of my boyfriend, I decided to take on the task of finding fancy new adult sheets. What are adult sheets you might ask? Well for starters, not the set that are a hold over from your college days. And probably no princesses, super heros, or animals included. Adult sheets are something well made and intentionally purchased for you and your sleeping habits.

Plus we’ve all heard the statistic that the average person will spend 1/3 of their life in bed. It deserves to be a place you look forward to spending time in and feels like a luxurious escape from your daily life. So if you’re ready to take the plunge, see our round up of high to low luxe sheets plus how I’m loving my new Brooklinen set and referral code to save $25 off your first purchase below.

The first thing to wrangle when looking for fancy sheets is the difference between sateen and percale. Before my search for sheets I had never even heard of percale or sateen but they are two different types of cotton weave which leave the sheets with distinct appearances and texture. Sateen has an more luxe feel however is less durable and can be too warm for summer nights. Percale is a better year round sheet because of it’s breathability however is not as soft and more prone to wrinkles. So take a look at your sleeping habits and lifestyle and pick which work best for you.

and then we tried percale vs sateen chart

Our medium sheets come from Brooklinen, a direct-to-consumer site who aims to educate about the materials and transparent costs that go into making each sheet set. They are like the Everlane of sheets. Parachute would also fall into this category selling high end basics of bedding. They even have The Parachute Hotel in Venice, California so you can book a stay and have the perk of trying out the sheets.

High above $300

Now there are many high end sheet companies, think Boll and Branch, but Coyuchi made our round up for their organic textiles, commitment to minimally processing, and high manufacturing standards. That in turn makes for truly luxurious and environmentally friendly sheets.

For me, living in Southern California, it was a no brainer to go with percale for the breathability on warm nights. I decided to try the Brooklinen Classic Core Sheet Set in Bedford Smoke Stripe.

And Then We Tried Brooklinen Referral Code

I’ve officially been sleeping on them for two months and love them. They have truly transformed my sleep. I thought the idea of sheets being lighter and more breathable was probably minimal at best and a nuance that would be hard to notice. Not the case! These are drastically cooler than my old jersey set.

And Then We Tried Brooklinen Referral Code

They came packaged nicely in a branded bag and shipped free and quickly. I would definitely recommend these to anyone shopping around. I purchased these with my own money, no one is even telling me to endorse these. They are really that good!

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
