Obsessions: 01.05.18

Hello, 2018! Man are we glad to put 2017 behind us and (fingers crossed) kick off an even better year. Despite being out of range of the bomb cyclone, it’s still cold AF in Cleveland and we’re jealous of Robin’s California weather. Between the weather and week one of the Whole30, Hannah and Michelle are definitely ready for the weekend! Here’s what we’ve been thinking about in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening

Anyone who watches our Instastories should be familiar with Smile Brilliant from when I made molds of my teeth and drooled all over my kitchen. Well, my custom teeth trays came back and I started the whitening process this week. You are supposed to leave the trays in for 45 minutes to three hours and so far I have made it up to about two hours before I get tired of not drinking water. I’ll do a whole post about how this works, but it’s safe to say I’m obsessed with trying these out this week.

Vegetarian Whole30 Recipes

Like Hannah, pretty much all I think about is Whole30 compliant food now.

This week I ate:

  1. Omelettes with lil potatoes, red pepper, red onion, and spinach stuffed inside and salsa on top
  2. Grain-free granola + bananas
  3. Sweet potato cakes with coconut tomato sauce on a pile of spinach (I skip the jalapenos because I’m a baby)
  4. Fried Cauliflower Rice and marinated tempeh, use these recipes as a starting point, with some Whole30 swaps you should be all set. The more sauce, the better for me, so I mixed up a ton of extra sauce (coconut aminos, sesame oil, almond butter, garlic, red curry paste, ginger, red pepper flakes) and dumped that on top of the dish.

Hit me up with your veg Whole30 recipe ideas in the comments!

Pimple Patches

obsession pimple patch

After reading this article on Into the Gloss, I was pretty intrigued about trying pimple patches. However, being the impossibly impatient person I am, I couldn’t wait for the recommended patches from Amazon and picked up Clearasil brand from Target. I’ve used them for approximately 36 hours and the jury is still out on their effectiveness. However, definite points for covering the zit so you can’t pick at it and it does make it look better overall once covered. The patches are fairly invisible, wouldn’t want to go to work with one on my face, but going to the gym or running errands it’s not bad. Stay tuned for the full review to come.

Dip Powder Manicure

obsession dip nails

FULL DISCLOSURE: I have not personally tried this. I searched and searched (or scrolled through yelp) for a salon that did dip powder nails and came up empty. Tell me, have you tried it? Do you like it? Is it worth all the FOMO I feel about not having a place nearby to try it. TELL ME EVERYTHING.

Whole30

Literally, the only thing I’ve thought about all week is the Whole30. Day one I was super motivated and ready to do this, but day two was truly horrible. I had a headache all day and felt hungover. I was so tired that I took a two-hour nap after work and still went to bed at 10 pm. Everything looked like ice cream and I was constantly hungry. But I woke up day three and the sugar detox symptoms had cleared. Day four was the same and here we are on day five and things seem to be going…well. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I think the worst might be behind me.

Meal planning has been my saving grace in this whole experiment. Here are two recipes I made this week that I’ve enjoyed:

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
